Give Back During the Holidays
Volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. Grab some friends, and make a day out of helping those in need. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people right in our communities who are hungry or without a place to live for the holidays. Remember how lucky you are, and make someone’s day by serving and giving them your time. They will appreciate it so much.
Bake cookies for a lonely neighbor. Sometimes even our neighbors need a little pick-me-up this holiday season. Their family could be out of the state, or they may live alone. Let them know that you’re thinking about them too with a simple gesture that you care. Try this recipe.
Write letters to the elderly. At your next girls’ night in, have all your besties make sweet cards for senior citizens who may not have anyone to share the holidays with. Once you’re done, ask Mom or an older sib to drive you to a local assisted living area or veterans’ home to hand deliver your letters to the residents and make their Christmas something merry.
Donate to someone who may not have presents under their tree this year. The holidays are great when you have something to look forward to on Christmas morning but keep in mind that not everyone has that privilege. So instead of throwing out the gifts you never used, or the clothes you never wore, give them to a reputable organization that will ensure another kid has a happy holiday.
